14 Coolest Things You Didn’t Know About Darth Maul

Darth Maul is a fictional character in the Star Wars franchise. He was portrayed by Ray Park in The Phantom Menace, and by Sam Witwer in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels.

Maul is a Zabrak Sith Lord who served as Darth Sidious’ apprentice in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace.

He also appears as a central character in various Legends literature and video games, including Star Wars: Episode I – Jedi Power Battles and Star Wars Galaxies. In addition, Maul has been featured in the comic book series Darth Maul: Son of Dathomir, which was intended to be the canonical sequel to The Phantom Menace.

The character was originally introduced as Darth Sidious’ apprentice in the 1999 film Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. He is killed off on Naboo by Obi-Wan Kenobi before his appearance in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith.

His survival was first announced at Celebration Anaheim on April 19, 2017 as part of a teaser for the new animated series Star Wars Rebels. In this two-part episode, entitled “Twin Suns,” Darth Maul’s brother Savage Opress finds him alive on the junker planet Lotho Minor after years of suffering.

Today you will find out the top facts about this awesome Lord Sith.

It comes from the planet Dathomir.

Dathomir is a remote planet located in wild space, inhabited by the Sisters of the Night, also known as witches of Dathomir; it also housed the Brothers of the Night, zabraks who were dominated and enslaved by the Sisters of the Night.

His mother was Kycina, a Dathorian witch.

She was a Sister of the Night of Mother Talzin’s group and a Zabrak father who, by tradition, was killed after Maul’s conception.

He had two brothers.

Maul was the older brother of Feral and Savage Opress. The two were chosen by Asajj Ventress, who was a Sister of the Night. The idea was to compete for the honor of being her champion to help her in her revenge against Count Dooku.

Opress was chosen to become her partner, while Feral failed the trials.

Darth Sidius, adopts him when he was a baby.

Kycina (his mother) wanted at least one of her children to live free of Talzin. Shortly after Maul’s birth, his mother met Darth Sidious, the young Sith apprentice of Darth Plagueis, and implored him to save Maul from the life of a slave.

Though a bit hesitant, Sidious was convinced to take Maul, especially considering the boy’s strong connection to the Force.

Maul spent the early years of his life in the care of Droids.

Maul spent the first years of his life in the care of droids, TD-D9 in particular, in a hidden location on Mustafar. A year after he was handed over to the Sith, Sidious granted his own Master’s permission to train Maul as an apprentice.

Plagueis, however, instructed Sidious not to give away his most precious secrets to the Zabrak.

His markings are tattoos specific to his species.

Shortly after his birth, he was subjected to an initiation ritual in which he was immersed in a magical oil bath, and covered from head to toe in black and red tattoos.

He was trained to be a Sith assassin.

Maul was being trained as a Sith assassin, not a Sith Lord like Plagueis and Sidious. The Sith assassins were a covert sect of Force-sensitive murderers secretly founded by Darth Revan on Malachor V during the Mandalorian Wars.

He was the first Sith in 1,000 years to face the Jedi.

Before facing Quin Gon Jin, the Sith had remained hidden. After the death of Bane (1000 ABY), the Sith went underground as the basic precepts of the Order dictated.

For 1,000 years they watched and waited, doing all they could to destabilize the Galactic Republic without revealing themselves, plotting ruses and planning revenge that would deal a fatal blow to the Republic and the Jedi.

After being torn in half on Naboo, Maul survived in the bowels of the planet.

Although the Jedi and Sidious believed Maul had perished on Naboo, the Sith assassin managed to survive.

He lived in the bowels of the planet and replaced his legs with a six-legged device that allowed him to walk again.

During his exile, he made a deal with a snake-like creature named Morley, who agreed to bring Maul food in exchange for his leftovers. Over the years, Maul went mad with rage and despair, with thoughts of revenge against Kenobi.

His double saber was based on Exar Kun’s weapon.

Exar Kun was one of the most powerful Dark Lords of the Sith known. Formerly a promising member of the Jedi Order under the tutelage of Master Vodo-Siosk Baas.

Kun was the first Force user on record to construct a double-bladed lightsaber in Republic space. This artifact served as inspiration for many later Sith, such as Darth Bandon, Darth Zannah or Darth Maul, or Dark Jedi such as Asajj Ventress.

For these reasons and more Darth Maul is one of my favorite characters in the entire saga; his mysticism and abilities make him one of the most powerful Sith assassins the Jedi will ever encounter.

How can Darth Maul be alive?

After being cut in half, it was his hatred for Obi-Wan and his desire for revenge that kept the Sith Lord alive. His mutilated body ended up on the landfill planet Lotho Minor, where he stayed alive eating vermin until he was found by his brother Savage Opress thanks to the Force.

By then, he had gone mad, but thanks to the help of Mother Talzin of his home planet, Dathomir, Maul was able to re-establish his mind and spirit, and obtained an exoskeleton to replace the limbs he lost in his combat.

Who is stronger Darth Vader or Darth Maul?

While Anakin is very skilled with weapons and hand-to-hand combat, after the helmet is put on him so he can survive, his agility is diminished, so Maul would have a great advantage, however the force in Vader is so powerful that he would only need an oversight to make a last move.

Where did Darth Maul get his lightsaber?

Darth Maul built his lightsaber based on Exar Kun’s lightsaber, then modified it to make it longer. He used it throughout his life. His lightsaber was broken by Obi-Wan Kenobi, during the Duel at Theed, a part of it continued to function and then fell with its bearer.

What was Darth Maul’s real name?

To date, Darth Maul’s real name is an unknown fact, but that will change in the Kenobi series.

Since they have confirmed that we will see him again in the series of the Disney + platform and it will be then when they give all the information about his past, including his real birth name. So we will solve that big doubt that Star Wars fans have.

So the reason why we do not know his real name is that they have decided to keep it until the most shocking moment, which will be in the series mentioned above.
